About the event

As freelancers, we know the (brilliant) advantages of this choice, with flexibility and autonomy chief among them. However, we also know that one of the challenges is trying to create a steady, robust income stream. For some publishing freelancers, a portfolio career or 'side hustle' is one way to do this. A portfolio career not only provides a way to boost your financial resilience, but also enables you to explore new interests, expand your professional network, or simply inject fresh energy into your working week.

In this relaxed and informal session, FPP's CPD team – Catherine Ball and Helen Holwill – will explore the wide-ranging benefits of the portfolio career for freelancers. We'll look not only at the financial benefits but consider how new and varied projects can support your wellbeing, spark creativity, build new skills, and connect you with different communities. From small digital ventures you can run from your laptop to more hands-on opportunities that get you out and about, we'll explore some of the imaginative possibilities available to freelancers.

This will be an interactive session with plenty of time for freelance attendees to share what's worked for them. Come along to be inspired by others' experiences, discover practical, easy-to-implement ideas and, perhaps, start thinking about how a portfolio career might fit into your own freelance life.
