Module 3: Building your custom AI agent – Part 1: The project concierge

Module 3 overview

In this hands-on workshop, we move beyond using general-purpose AI chat tools to building customised AI tools designed for specific publishing workflows. You’ll learn the fundamentals of creating and instructing an AI agent – sometimes referred to as a bot or custom GPT – with clearly defined parameters, so that it behaves consistently and reliably when carrying out tasks such as following an established style guide, managing project tracking, or analysing submission guidelines.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

• Define the parameters and knowledge base required for a custom AI agent

• Understand what an AI agent is and what it can and cannot do

• Build a style guide checker AI agent that is capable of evaluating texts against specific client guidelines

• Create your own agent that can organise and categorise incoming project-related queries or submissions

• Troubleshoot and refine agent instructions to improve performance over time
